NATURE ALIVE
The Astitz hostel is located in the village of Astitz, municipality of Larraun, privileged place where lie the mountains of Aralar (declared a place of Community Interest). Larraun is located in the historic and geographic heart of Basque Country, whose rich landscape attracts thousands of visitors a year, in a magical natural setting, forming a mosaic of rural, karstic landscapes and high mountain.
Among its many attractions stands out the natural area of the source of the River Ertzilla (in the municipality of Iribas), which offers enormous didactic and recreative possibilities. Aralar is by definition a karst landscape in which the abysses and caves abound. Among them is obliged to mention the Cave of Mendukilo (in the village of Astitz), which has been enabled for tourist visit.
The visitor in the Valley of Larraun can enjoy many elements of historical, natural and cultural interest:
- Visit to the Sanctuary
of San Miguel in Excelsis, pre-Romanesque sanctuary with more than a thousand years of history, raised along with the peak of Mount Artxueta. The altarpiece in its interior is considered a work summit of the European enamel. - The Green Way of Plazaola, ancient way of the mining railway, now recovered for tourist pleasure (walking or biking) and linking the towns of Lekunberri (Navarra) and Andoain (Gipuzkoa).
- Beigorri Park Adventure, located in the municipality of Lekunberri, it allows visitors to test their skill to complete the journey from tree to tree, walking along the branches.
